Entry Information
MOST virtual entries must be accompanied by one or more images and/or documents. Be sure to read and be prepared to upload the required images/documents for the categories you are entering.
Competitive/Evaluated Entries must be received by 4/14/2021. These entries will receive evaluation scores and comments, an award-level certificate, be included in the Virtual Exhibits Show and be included in the Awards Ceremony
Exhibit-Only Entries must be received by 4/21/2021. These entries will receive a Certificate of Participation and be included in the Virtual Exhibits Show
4-H Age Divisions (based on age as of December 31st of the current 4-H program year)
Primary* (5-8 years old)
Junior (9-10 years old)
Intermediate (11-13 years old)
Senior (14-18 years old)
Open to ALL 4-H Members (Do NOT need to be in a Cooking/Foods Project to exhibit or attend)
*Primary Members may only enter in the "Exhibit-Only" class.

If you are able to volunteer your time as a Poster, Baked Foods, Decorated Foods, Table Setting or Live Challenge Evaluator please sign up using the link below.
Evaluators can be adults or Senior Members with knowledge of the subject being evaluated.

Virtual Foods Challenge Summary
At Virtual Foods Challenge, there will be a number of opportunities for members to exhibit, present, or just have fun! All activities will be virtual with most entries required to be submitted 10 days before the event to allow time for evaluations. There will also be a couple real-time/live competitions as well as a couple foods-related Kahoot! games.
Since the event is virtual, it will be a bit different from the more familiar Alameda County 4-H Favorite Foods Day. A complete catalog of the various exhibit and competitions is available, but here is a brief summary

Live Competitions on April 24th! . Entries Due 4/21/2021
"Create an Animal-Themed Decorated Cupcake" Challenge. Try your hand at creating a cupcake that looks like an animal! You will be given 30 minutes to decorate, with camera on, a fabulous animal-themed cupcake. You can make as many cupcakes as you wish in the half hour allotted, then pick the best one to enter. You will then present your chosen finished product, describing what you did. You will be evaluated on Appearance, Level of Difficulty, Creativity and Presentation.
Items Needed for the Animal Cupcake Contest:
- Undecorated cupcakes (one for submission, others as extras “in case”)
- Frosting & frosting knife
- Piping tools (optional)
Suggested (possible) Decorations:
- Candies:
- Gumdrops
- Candy eyes
- Licorice
- Etc.
- Store-bought or homemade cookies
- Sprinkles
- Marshmallows
- Pretzels
- Chocolate chips
Disallowed decorations:
- Anything not edible.
- No pre-made animal parts other than candy eyes.
Throw-Down/"Chopped" Challenge. This competition will involve creating some food item on the fly that includes a specific list of "special Ingredients". Any method of food preparation is allowed (baking, frying, processing..) and cold prepped foods are also allowed if the final result is appropriate for the Special Ingredients.
- A list of ten items will be emailed to you 2 days prior to the competition that you will need to have on-hand for the competition.
- At the beginning of the contest, you will learn what the FOUR items (out of the ten) that must be incorporated in your creation
- “Special Ingredients” must be manipulated in some fashion (shredded, chopped, melted, pulverized, baked, toasted,...) and be incorporated in your final Challenge Creation.
- You will have 40 minutes to work, in your kitchen with your camera/video ON, to create.
- You will then present your item describing what you created and how.
- You will be evaluated on Creativity, Level of Difficulty, Incorporation of Special Ingredients, Appearance, and Presentation, which will include your description of what you created, how you used the Special Ingredients, what techniques you used your honest evaluation of the Taste.
